Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is not yet known and the United States has not commented.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.

The statement noted wreckage landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
