Shock as Beloved South African DJ Shot Dead in Johannesburg.
A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country battling rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was gunned down in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old media personality was confronted by a trio of assailants, with one opened fire on him before escaping on foot.
The purpose behind the shooting is unknown and no one has been arrested have taken place, according to authorities.
How It Happened
Law enforcement said that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a premises close to the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the site managing the installation of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, as per local media.
"It is alleged the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities said.
Surveillance tape reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocked hair and wearing what appeared to be a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
Officials noted that Stock had an weapon on his person and no items were stolen during the attack.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were found at the scene.
Call for Public Assistance
Authorities have requested eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.
"Our information indicates they covered significant ground after the attack, and officers have been tracking them to establish their whereabouts," remarked an authority figure.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, Nicole Stock, expressed the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.
"I am in shock. I don't have words," she stated.
"It is clear he was a representative for countless citizens. He addressed issues courageously about issues not many people were willing to discuss. This is a tremendous loss."
She requested the public to not sharing disturbing footage from the incident, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, above all for Stock's children.

Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that aired on a South African digital satellite entertainment channel.
Beyond his role as a presenter, Stock was involved in various business ventures, including protective services, supplying high-level security services and managing safety for prestigious gatherings across South Africa.
He was also understood to participate in property management and was involved in property reclaimations.

His death has sent the nation reeling and prompted an outpouring of tributes from his audience, the authorities and political parties.
A government minister said he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's untimely death.
"He spoke his truth boldly and honestly. He even spoke up against me and my policies as a public official. He was a pure example of who we should be," the minister added.
A party figurehead said the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a trauma for all South Africans".

In a statement, the broadcaster he worked for said Stock was known for his presence, kindness and intelligent commentary, adding that his memory "will endure".
