Vince Gilligan Shares He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will End... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that Pluribus would emerge as a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and a second season already in development—the creative team opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and audience predictions about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's by design. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Has the showrunner Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering the writers are not listening by audience theories, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We have some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to throw out a solid concept for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
